About Alonia and the old mansions
The oldest part of Kifissia, with grand 19th-century mansions, traditional tavernas, bakeries and herb shops on Agiou Tryfonos Street. In the 19th century wealthy Athenians built summer villas here to escape the heat of the city, and a walk through Alonia and the streets around Kefalari reveals many of these beautiful mansions. On Wednesday mornings, the top of Agiou Tryfonos Street hosts one of the largest farmers’ markets in Athens.
