About Diporto

A legendary no-menu basement taverna beside the Central Market. Simple daily dishes, chickpeas, grilled fish and barrel wine, shared at communal tables. The Varvakios Central Market on Athinas Street, trading since the 1880s, is the heart of Athens food shopping, with meat, fish and spice stalls and old tavernas around it. Athenians dine late, usually from 21:00, so book ahead for weekend dinners, especially at the best-known tables.
