Every Thursday the laiki, the neighbourhood street market, fills Lazaraki Street with fresh fruit and vegetables, olives, herbs and clothing. Go early for the best choice, or around 1pm for bargains as stallholders pack up. Glyfada is the liveliest town on the Athens Riviera, about 17 km south of the centre, with smart shopping streets, marinas, beach clubs and seafront cafés, and the coastal tram runs here from the city. The coastal tram and buses connect the Riviera with the centre, and a taxi from Syntagma takes about half an hour outside rush hour.
