The two main streets of Plaka, lined with souvenir shops, Greek crafts, ceramics, jewellery, natural cosmetics, olive oil and honey, with views of the Acropolis and tavernas for a break. Shops here are usually open on Sundays and late into the evening. Plaka is the oldest neighbourhood of Athens, a maze of lanes and neoclassical houses below the Acropolis, with tavernas, small museums and shops; it is largely pedestrian and best explored on foot. Bargaining is not usual in shops, but ask about tax-free shopping if you live outside the EU.
