About Melissinos Art
Pantelis Melissinos, third generation of Athens' famous 'poet sandal maker' family (since 1920), handcrafts bespoke leather sandals based on ancient Greek designs, in a workshop near the Acropolis Museum. Closed Mondays. Makrygianni lies just south of the Acropolis, around the Acropolis Museum and the pedestrian Dionysiou Areopagitou promenade, so the ancient sites are only minutes away on foot. Shops in central Athens usually open Monday to Saturday, with longer hours on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, while many in Plaka and Monastiraki also open on Sundays.
